A grill is a perforated cover for an air duct (used for heating. cooling. or ventilation. or a combination thereof). Grills sometimes have louvers which allow the flow of air to be directed. A grill may also be a device that cooks food by applying heat from below. There are several varieties of grills. with most falling into one of three categories: gas-fueled. charcoal. or electric. In frying. a grill may refer to a metallic filtering device used to remove food debris from the cooking oil. A thermocouple is a transducer consisting of two different metals welded together at each end; a voltage is produced that is proportional to the difference in temperature between the two junctions (one of which is normally held at a known temperature). Commercial thermocouples are inexpensive. interchangeable. are supplied with standard connectors. and can measure a wide range of temperatures. In contrast to most other methods of temperature measurement. thermocouples are self powered and require no external form of excitation.
